I am a teacher based in the Aberdeen area (UK) with thirty years experience of piano performance and twelve years experience in teaching adults and children. I have a BA Honours degree in Music, I am educated according to the ABRSM syllabus, and I am currently studying a PGDE in Secondary Music at Aberdeen University. I achieved a Merit in the Certificate in the Practice of Music Making from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London. I will also begin a DipABRSM in Instrumental Teaching in due course. I have enjoyed performing in music festivals and at concerts where I have received certificates of achievement. I have a passion for teaching and enjoy the rewarding experience of listening to my pupils perform.

I am able to prepare pupils for ABRSM practical and theory exams. I will be teaching children (beginners and intermediates) from 7 years of age.

Why Piano Lessons?
Learning the piano has a lot of great advantages for people of all ages. First and foremost the piano is a great hobby and is the perfect way to express yourself and relax. Concentration and levels of self-discipline can also be improved since reading music requires a lot of focus. On a more scientific note, new neural pathways in the brain can be created, increasing levels of intellect which is particularly useful for school-work.
Learning the piano can increase confidence and provides opportunities to perform in front of others. A history of music can also be discovered when looking at classical music, during lessons this can be discussed with each piece that is played. However, I believe what is most important, is a good teacher who can understand strengths, weaknesses and has the ability to challenge pupils, to increase motivation and enjoyment in learning.
